Ireland’s Shame

April 3, 2009

I understand that in the economic whirlwind that has struck Ireland, not everyone is suffering the same. Job losses in factories and offices are announced every day. Apparently 41% of all architects in the country have lost their job in the year to the end of March 2009. Forty-one percent!

The Department of Education have announced their cuts for the new budget, which will include capitation grants to Traveller children and EVERYTHING to do with special needs education.

In the meantime, members of the Judiciary and medical consultants, who are all paid out of the public purse,  have refused to take a pay cut.

Shameful.

The celebrated Celtic Tiger is proving to have been little more than a mangy cur.

  1. That’s a great angle on the recession and the Irish response to it. But this blog entry is also bad for my health because it sends my thoughts once more down the spiral of depression at the state of my nation… 😦

  2. sorry Kevin…but we need to be more outraged by what has happened and is happening. It’s scandalous.
