A Forgotten Memorial – Money

April 1, 2009

What is the place of money in the story?

The religious leaders, contemplate a price to remove a threat to a well-ordered and controlled population. That price includes deception and death.

The unnamed woman pays a price of extravagant devotion.

The friends of Jesus judge the keen price of a salved conscience.

Judas receives the deliberate price paid for betrayal.

What does the woman understand about cost that the men in the story don’t?

  • There is a cost to keeping peace and removing a threatening presence;
  • There is a cost associated with the salving of a conscience;
  • There is a cost to settling scores;
  • There is a cost that will pay a final and lasting tribute to those whom society would destroy.

For Reflection
What price am I willing to pay?
