Complicated Conversations

March 25, 2009

On Monday morning I sat in on a conversation with two VAT inspectors and two accountants who are experts in tax. I’m not.

Anyway, the conversation took over two hours as they batted back and forward trying to win arguments which would decide how much VAT Skainos would be liable to pay.

Here’s the thing. There was not a single word uttered in the two hours whose meaning confused me, I was even able to figure out the acronyms. It was when they joined the words together into sentences and paragraphs that I got utterly bamboozled.

It is a fascinating thing to realise that there are whole disciplines out there which I have absolutely no understanding of whatsoever.
