Some End of Season Football Funnies

May 28, 2008

Let’s quickly gloss over what has ultimately been a disappointing football season, culminating in my Leeds team bottling it at Wembley for the third time in a row. Excluding our Charity Shield win over Liverpool in 1992, we have failed to score a goal there in 36 years. Since winning the cup against Arsenal in 1972 in fact (remember it well). Mind you, that’s not saying a whole lot…we haven’t been there that often.

Anyway some funnies to cheer up people like me.

Firstly, my good friend Mitch forwards me this link slagging off poor John Terry. This one is the best.

And then, courtesy of the BBC Sports pages, you should really check out this, Chants of the Season.

Congrats to City fans for this originality:

(The Proclaimers’ I’m Gonna Be (500 miles)):

“Oh you can freeze 500 million, and you can freeze 500 more,
Cos Thaksin’s got another billion underneath his bedroom floor,
Shin-a-watra! Shin-a-watra!”

mind you I’m not so sure they’d be all that happy at the moment.

Or this stadium announcement:

“Scorer for Kilmarnock, number 16 Dick Turpin.”
Fir Park announcer when Kilmarnock striker Rhian Dodds scored a last-minute winner against Motherwell in a game which the home side dominated

Coverage following the play-off defeat reminded me how much the media still seems to take delight in Leeds’ misfortunes.

If only they would re-direct this at a more deserving club like Arsenal!

  2. ‘Tis the burden we must carry.

be careful about the arsenal comments though or Mitch, regular round here, won’t be happy

So true! But I’m getting used to the disappointment and the ridicule. Not too used to it though that I couldn’t enjoy some silverware . . . ! That’s one good thing about Euro: chance to watch some good soccer without too much emotional investment as my allegiances are spread wherever Arsenal players are found. Come on Spain, France, Holland, etc. (And that won’t make much of a cheer!)

Premiership supporters are used to watching teams of non-English footballers so the Euros will be more of the same!

  5. The beautiful thing about us Arsenal faithfuls is that we stay faithful till the end,no matter what!!(though honestly we’d really love to enjoy the green end of the garden too)that said there where Chelsea Fans that where prepared to desert their Club had it not been for the changes made!most definitely not an Arsenal fan trait!GUNNERS FOR LIFE!!we will get there!
